Dive Brief:
- Rutter’s has added three new options to its rotating food menu just three months after debuting the program, according to a Tuesday press release.
- The items include Kickin’ Chicken and Waffles, The Donut Breakfast, and grilled mac & cheese. They replace a peanut butter burger, loaded potato pizza and pulled pork fries, and can be ordered all day, every day.
- To drive up demand, Rutter’s is offering the new items for a limited time across its convenience store footprint.
Dive Insight:
Rutter’s rotating menu gives the company a way to bring unique tastes to its customers while keeping the popular heart of the menu unchanged.
“Our team is constantly working to bring unforgettable food items to our extensive menu,” said Chad White, Rutter’s foodservice category manager, in the announcement.
The chicken and waffles features a spicy fried chicken filet with Frank’s Buffalo Sauce, pepper jack cheese, pickles and coleslaw between two Belgian waffles. The breakfast sandwich includes egg, sausage and American cheese on a glazed donut, while the grilled mac & cheese pairs the creamy pasta with slices of cheddar, which is then topped with bacon and put between two pieces of bread.
The rotating menu is one of two foodservice-focused changes Rutter’s made in March, with the other being the debut of its online ordering platform.
Rutter’s, which traces its history back to 1747, operates 85 convenience stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia, with plans to expand into Delaware and Virginia in the next few years. In addition to the c-store arm, Rutter’s Companies also owns a dairy and beverages company and a real estate firm.
