7-Eleven has named Dave Strachan as vice president and chief of staff to CEO Joseph DePinto, effective earlier this month, a spokesperson from the convenience retailer confirmed to C-Store Dive.
Strachan’s hiring came on the heels of former chief of staff Kristen Cook resigning at the end of July. It marks a homecoming for Strachan, who held numerous leadership positions over the course of nearly 16 years with 7-Eleven earlier in his career.
This isn’t Strachan’s first go as chief of staff for 7-Eleven. He previously held the role between 2016 and 2021, according to his LinkedIn bio. While in that position, Strachan supported DePinto, who has been 7-Eleven’s CEO since 2005, by building the company's innovation implementation team, brand excellence program and COVID-19 command center, according to his LinkedIn bio.

7-Eleven’s spokesperson did not share what Strachan’s priorities will be in his second stint as chief of staff. The executive re-joins 7-Eleven during a challenging time in which he’ll likely need to work closely with DePinto. The company faced mounting economic challenges brought on by inflation last fiscal year, as its same-store sales fell 2.7% and are expected to contract by another 1.5% in fiscal 2025. 7-Eleven is also planning an IPO in the second half of 2026.
Strachan first joined 7-Eleven in 2009 as a business consultant and went on to hold numerous positions over the next decade and a half. His most recent position was SVP of fresh foods, a role which he resigned from in October 2024 to attend to family matters, he said in a statement to C-Store Dive at the time. 7-Eleven hired former Albertsons SVP Brandon Brown as his replacement.
