Performance Food Group has promoted president and chief operating officer Scott McPherson to CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2026, the foodservice distribution giant announced last week.
McPherson, who will also join PFG’s board of directors, will succeed George Holm, who is transitioning to executive chair of the board. Holm will continue to work with McPherson on M&A activities, customer relationship matters and the company’s strategic direction, according to the announcement.
McPherson, who joined PFG in 2021 and became COO in late 2023, brings plenty of convenience retailing expertise to the top of PFG. Prior to his most recent position, he led PFG’s Core-Mark division — one of the most notable c-store foodservice solution providers in the U.S. — for several years. As COO, he’s led PFG’s convenience arm, as well as its foodservice business segment and its snacking division, Vistar.

“I believe our company has tremendous growth potential as we focus on driving top-line performance — supporting our existing customers while winning new business through collaboration across our diverse segments,” McPherson said in the announcement. “Operationally, we’re well positioned and will continue investing in technologies that enhance efficiency and strengthen bottom-line results.”
Convenience retailing is one of PFG’s priority segments, with 42 of its 150 distribution centers across the U.S. dedicated to c-stores, according to its website. Based in Richmond, Virginia, PFG offers several turnkey c-store food programs, including Contiga Taqueria, Deli 55, Perfectly Southern, The Red Seal pizzeria and Tru-Q BBQ. PFG has owned and operated Core-Mark since late 2021.
