Rene Da Costa, foodservice director for Shell USA, resigned from the convenience retailer and oil giant last week, Da Costa confirmed in a statement to C-Store Dive.
Da Costa said his final day with Shell USA — which he joined in early 2024, according to his LinkedIn bio — was Sept. 19 and that he is looking for his next opportunity.
“After a meaningful journey at Shell USA, it’s time for me to take on a new adventure,” Da Costa said in a LinkedIn announcement on Saturday. “I’m truly appreciative of the experiences and the people I’ve crossed paths with during this chapter. Each connection and lesson has played a part in shaping what comes next.”
Da Costa helped launch several food and beverage initiatives at Shell USA, operator of about 200 Timewise c-stores across Houston, San Antonio, Austin and Laredo, Texas, during his time with the company. These included Timewise’s revamped coffee menu, which features cold brew, macchiatos, lattes and other espresso beverages; Chargers energy drinks that include customizable flavor additions; and a Latin American menu that features breakfast, chicken, beef and brisket tacos and burritos.
Da Costa joined Shell USA in January 2024 after about two decades of experience in the restaurant, foodservice and hospitality industries, according to his LinkedIn bio. Prior to Shell USA, he was executive vice president for Ohio-based pizza franchisee Marco’s Pizza. He’s also held operations-focused roles through the years with Dunkin, Costa Coffee, Papa Johns and Domino’s.
A spokesperson from Shell USA declined to comment when asked to speak on Da Costa’s departure and who his replacement will be.
