Dive Brief:
- Spinx has partnered with Tote AI, an AI-native point-of-sale platform, to update the technology in multiple areas of its stores.
- Tote will provide Spinx’s 96 c-stores in the Carolinas with updated POS touchpoints, as well as bring the retailer’s ordering, checkout and kitchen technology onto one system. The new systems will begin to go live in the second half of 2026, with all stores expected to receive the update by spring 2027, Luis Ackerman, vice president of technology for Spinx, said in an interview.
- These updates will use Spinx’s existing hardware and rely on agentic AI to deepen its customer insights.
Dive Insight:
Spinx’s adoption of Tote’s system will unify the retailer’s previously fragmented tools to pull out deeper insights and also offer more flexibility and easier upgrades in the future, the company said.
Spinx previously selected a different provider to update its systems, but changed its mind upon finding Tote better fit its needs, according to the announcement.
"The platform was compelling enough that we reopened our evaluation," said Ackerman in the announcement. "When we discovered it could also handle our food service technology needs, the decision became clear.”
Tote’s technology is specifically tailored for the c-store space, a trend experts expect to see increase this year.
"This partnership validates what we've been hearing from operators across the country: the convenience store industry is ready for a quantum leap in technology, one that doesn't just process transactions, but empowers operators to compete, adapt, and thrive in an increasingly dynamic retail landscape,” said Shyam Rao, founder and CEO of Tote.
