Mette Uglebjerg, Alimentation Couche-Tard’s senior vice president of global food and marketing, will become CEO of European health and beauty brand Matas Group on May 1, according to a series of announcements from Uglebjerg and the company.
As one of Couche-Tard’s top global executives, Uglebjerg has spearheaded the convenience retailer’s foodservice program and marketing across its entire c-store network since late 2024. Uglebjerg stepped into her current position after leading Couche-Tard’s Circle K operations in Europe for two years and serving as managing director and CEO for its Denmark business unit for four years prior to that. She joined the company in June 2012 when it acquired Statoil Fuel & Retail.
Uglebjerg assumed leadership of Couche-Tard’s global food and marketing segments shortly after the company agreed to acquire GetGo Café + Market, the former convenience store arm of supermarket chain Giant Eagle. In the two years since, Couche-Tard has looked to implement many of GetGo’s food offerings and strategies into its own operations. Additionally, Couche-Tard’s proprietary Fresh Food, Fast program has reached 6,000 c-stores globally.

Her departure will leave a hole near the top of Couche-Tard’s global leadership team, and it’s unclear who will assume her duties after she departs. A Couche-Tard spokesperson did not respond by press time when asked to comment.
“I’m looking forward to giving my complete focus and energy in the months ahead and continuing to deliver strong results with my great colleagues, in an organisation I genuinely enjoy being part of,” Uglebjerg said in her announcement. “There will be time for a proper farewell when my chapter at Circle K is complete.”
Uglebjerg will be the second current Couche-Tard executive to leave the company in May. Niall Anderton, SVP of strategy and transformation, will leave that same month to become CEO of Irish food retailer and wholesaler Musgrave Group.
