The most surprising and potentially industry-shifting acquisition any convenience retailer made in 2025 was RaceTrac’s $566 million acquisition of sandwich chain Potbelly. The Atlanta-based company now enters its first calendar year as the parent company of a well-known QSR with hundreds of locations, which is unfamiliar ground for convenience retailers.
Beyond its integration of Potbelly, the c-store industry will be keeping an eye on RaceTrac’s expansion plans. The company moved into Ohio in late 2024 and added its first store in North Carolina in 2025. To support those moves, RaceTrac expanded its agreement with supplier Care-Mark and built a distribution center in Louisiana.
The retailer also continued its hot streak of tech upgrades. It debuted an app for its franchised stores, added new payment options, boosted pump uptime and tapped Epson for shelf tagging and product labeling. The company also named its first-ever chief information officer in Ameet Shetty.
As we gear up to see what RaceTrac has in store in the coming months, we’re sharing our coverage of their growth from the past year below.
