Dive Brief:
- Wawa has partnered with electric vehicle charging network Ionna to add “Rechargeries” at some of its locations, according to a Wednesday announcement from Ionna.
- The first of these sites will open at a Wawa in Daytona Beach, Florida, this week. Other locations in Florida are slated to open soon, including at stores in Bradenton, Pensacola and Orlando.
- Wawa joins Sheetz in partnering with Ionna to add Rechargeries to their forecourts.
Dive Insight:
While neither Ionna nor Wawa responded by press time to questions about the scope of this agreement, the announcement specified that it’s Ionna’s “single largest EV Charging commitment to date.” Ionna announced late last year that it would open more than 50 Rechargeries with Sheetz in the Midwest and eastern U.S.
The Wawa sites will include 400kW Genuine Charge Dispensers, meeting broader consumer desires for more powerful charging infrastructure.
Wawa already has more than 175 locations with EV charging in its network, including EVgo and Tesla sites, according to the retailer’s website.
"With an ongoing commitment to providing our customers with speed and convenience, our new collaboration with IONNA does just that," said Rich Makin, chief fuel officer for Wawa.
