ExtraMile Convenience Stores opened its first location in Florida on June 19, marking another step in the California-based retailer's expansion across the Southeast. The company, which is co-owned by Chevron and Jacksons Food Stores, will host an official grand opening for the Gainesville convenience store on July 24.
More locations in the Sunshine State are on the way, with plans to open between 30 and 50 sites in the next two years, Brad Wolford, general manager of sales for ExtraMile, said in an interview. Wolford added that ExtraMile has solidified store locations along Florida’s West Coast, from Tampa down to Fort Myers, and is working on a statewide expansion.
“We've got major interest in Jacksonville, Brevard County [and] Central Florida,” he said.
ExtraMile is beginning its Florida push on the northern part of the state to “bridge the gap” between the Sunshine State and Georgia, where the retailer is also rapidly expanding, Wolford said. In Georgia, ExtraMile is about to open its 50th location and expects to have at least 100 stores by this time next year, he added.
“We figured we'll go ahead and start with good beacon locations like the site in Gainesville,” Wolford said.

When asked what new market ExtraMile plans to enter next, Wolford said the convenience retailer has its sights set on Texas — the largest c-store market in the country.
ExtraMile opened its first convenience store in Louisiana two years ago and is planning to add more locations along Interstate 10 as it moves west into the Lone Star State. Wolford said ExtraMile could have sites in multiple markets across the state, from the Dallas-Fort Worth area to San Antonio, Austin and Houston.
“We are very confident that we'll be in Texas in 2027, and we're getting those commitments lined up today,” he said.
The multi-state growth aligns with what ExtraMile President and CEO Brian Sardelich told C-Store Dive in June 2024: That the convenience retailer hoped to grow its store count from about 1,100 locations at the time to close to 2,000 by 2029.

The retailer now expects to surpass 1,200 locations this month, which puts it behind the pace for that goal, Wolford said. He anticipates ExtraMile getting closer to about 1,500 locations by 2029, and said cost of equipment, tariffs, the war with Iran and other industry headwinds have impacted its progress.
Still, Wolford hinted that additional expansion opportunities could accelerate the company's growth.
“We should easily be able to get to north of 1,500 stores by [2029], but we're working on some big packages and stuff that I'm not able to share as of now that could flip us closer to that 2,000.”
