Global Partners has hired Emily Filc as vice president of retail operations, a company spokesperson confirmed to C-Store Dive.
Filc joins Global Partners after spending the past 22 years at Starbucks, where she was most recently regional director of operations, according to her LinkedIn bio. At Global Partners, she’ll help lead the Massachusetts-based company offer “exceptional guest experiences, strong brand execution and operational discipline across the retail network,” the spokesperson said.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join such a strong organization and work alongside talented teams across the business,” Filc said in a LinkedIn announcement last week. “I’m excited for what’s ahead. Let’s go.”
In her latest role with the coffee powerhouse, Filc oversaw profit and loss for more than 140 Starbucks locations across four Northeastern states, she notes in her LinkedIn bio. Filc’s region became a test market for new business concepts, and she oversaw 18 pilot programs for new technologies and operating and labor practices. She also helped Starbucks open more than 60 new locations and remodel 40 stores during this period.
Most of Filc’s experience with Starbucks prior to moving into regional operations in 2019 was at the store level. She joined the company in 2004 as a front-line employee before becoming an assistant store manager and then store manager. In 2012, Filc became a district manager, a role she held for nine years. Prior to moving into regional operations, Filc also worked as a partner resource manager and recruiter in Starbucks’ human resources department for one year.
“Her time at Starbucks shaped her leadership philosophy around empowerment, accountability, and helping teams understand ‘the why’ behind the work — principles she's excited to continue bringing into this next opportunity at Global Partners,” the spokesperson said.
Filc’s hiring coincides with Global Partners’ increasing investment in its convenience retail network, which includes around 300 company-operated sites primarily in the Northeast, as well as 67 gas stations in Texas through its Spring Retail Partners joint venture. The company recently opened its first new Alltown Fresh c-store in nearly three years, and is expected to debut its first Honey Farms Market location in New York later this year.
Global Partners said in its latest annual report that it expects to spend between $75 million and $85 million this year building and updating existing facilities, including c-stores and gas stations.
