East Coast convenience retailer Legacy Markets has hired Scott Burchfield as its chief operating officer, Burchfield confirmed to C-Store Dive.
Burchfield officially joined Legacy, which operates 10 Triangle Stop Food Stores in North Carolina, on March 9, he said in a statement. A Legacy spokesperson declined to comment when asked about Burchfield’s hiring.
Legacy was founded in 2024 when it acquired Triangle and its parent company, fuel distributor JH Reaben Oil Co. All of its c-stores are in western North Carolina, primarily serving the Hendersonville and Brevard communities. The company is separate from Virginia-based Legacy Markets, which operates a handful of convenience stores and a car wash in Northern Virginia.

Burchfield’s hiring comes about three months after he left his post as COO of regional c-store competitor Fresh Stop for reasons neither he nor the company disclosed. He joined Fresh Stop in mid-2024, a couple months after parent company Madison Capital Group, a real estate development and investment firm, launched a division aimed at expanding its retail portfolio.
Burchfield has also held director and VP-level operations and strategy roles with retailers such as Sunoco, Giant Oil, Mid-Atlantic Convenience Stores and The Pantry, according to his LinkedIn bio. He also spent over five years with c-store consultancy Impact 21.
Earlier in his career, Burchfield spent 16 years as a district manager for drugstore chain Eckerd and two years with Bed Bath & Beyond.
