Dive Brief:
- Mirabito Convenience Stores has acquired nine locations from New York competitor Quicklee’s for an undisclosed amount, the retailer announced last week.
- All nine stores are located in Western New York, with four in Rochester and one each in Fairport, Hamlin, Batavia, Lyons and Dalton. Each location will rebrand to Mirabito, according to the announcement.
- The deal further cements Mirabito as a competitive c-store threat in the Northeast, where the fast-growing chain has over 110 locations across three states.
Dive Insight:
Mirabito, which opened its first convenience store in 1982, continues its recent growth spree with the Quicklee’s acquisition. Last year, the retailer opened its first c-store in Vermont after acquiring the site from Stewart’s Shops. The company also has a few stores in Pennsylvania.
The Birmingham, New York-based retailer expects to add its own fresh food and beverages, snacks and grocery items to its newly acquired locations as part of the rebranding. According to its website, Mirabito’s food offerings feature items like chicken sliders, breakfast sandwiches, French toast sticks, pizza, sub sandwiches and chicken and waffles sandwiches.
“Our goal has always been to provide communities with reliable fuel, quality food offerings, and convenient shopping in stores that are welcoming and well-maintained,” said Marissa Sweeney, senior marketing director for Mirabito Holdings. “We look forward to bringing the Mirabito experience to these communities.”
The deal is significant for Quicklee’s, which just divested about 30% of its convenience store network. A spokesperson from Quicklee’s did not respond by press time when asked to comment on the sale. The Avon, New York-based retailer still has 21 locations across the state, including five in Rochester, according to its website.
