Dive Brief:
- Sunoco has acquired the dealer wholesale fuel supply and transportation rolling stock assets of Alexander Oil Company, according to a Monday announcement from Corner Capital Advisors, which advised Alexander on the sale.
- The deal gives Sunoco branded and unbranded dealer wholesale accounts in the Houston, Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Bryan/College Station and Brenham parts of Texas, representing more than 90 million gallons of fuel a year.
- This is the third publicly announced transaction from Sunoco so far in 2026 as it targets a planned $500 million worth of bolt-on acquisitions this year.
Dive Insight:
Alexander, a third-generation family-owned business, will retain the commercial fuels and lubricants business, including bulk plants and cardlock sites.
“Our family has been committed to serving our customers across Texas for more than five decades, and we are confident Sunoco will continue that legacy of dependable service,” said owners Jay Alexander and Jud Alexander Jr. in the announcement. “We are grateful to our employees and customers for their loyalty over the years and look forward to seeing these operations transition smoothly under Sunoco’s leadership.”
Sunoco had about $200 million worth of M&A either completed or signed and close to closing as of the end of the first quarter, President and CEO Joseph Kim said during the company’s earnings call. It’s not clear if the Alexander Oil acquisition, which officially closed in December 2025, was included in that total.
Since the start of the year, Sunoco has also announced its acquisition of Pops Mart’s fuels business and 36 of its c-stores as well as 56 Duck Thru sites in North Carolina and Virginia from Jernigan Oil Company and 48 c-stores from Capitol Petroleum Group in New York.
With both the Pops Mart and Alexander Oil deals, Sunoco is also a heavy player in the fuels M&A space, which has seen a lot of activity this year. In recent months, the industry has also seen Campbell Oil make two fuel-focused acquisitions, Gaubert Oil buy the wholesale and transportation division of Buffalo Services and JB Dewar acquire McCormix Corporation.
