CrossAmerica Partners has named Jonathan Benfield as its chief financial officer, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday.
He became interim chief financial officer and chief accounting officer in March when former financial lead Maura Topper was promoted to CEO, succeeding Charles Nifong. Benfield now takes over the role permanently.
Representatives from CrossAmerica did not respond by press time when asked if Benfield will continue in the chief accounting officer role as well. His pay was increased to $325,000 upon becoming interim CFO and will not change with his new title, according to SEC filings.
Benfield has more than 25 years of public and corporate accounting experience, according to his biography on CrossAmerica’s website.
He first joined CrossAmerica in 2012 and held several roles before taking on the interim CFO role earlier this year. Prior to that, he’d been chief accounting officer for the company since late 2020, according to the website.
His other experience includes four years at natural gas company PPL Corporation and nine years with Ernst & Young, most recently as senior manager in the audit practice.
Benfield takes on the CFO role full-time as the company comes off a strong first quarter. Net income improved from a $7 million loss in Q1 2025 to a gain of more than $10 million in Q1 2026, according to its earnings report.
