Dive Brief:
- GoMart has partnered with restaurant company Galardi Group to open Wienerschnitzel hot dog QSRs at two of its convenience stores, according to a Tuesday announcement.
- The restaurants will debut at GoMart locations in Kanawha City and Ghent, West Virginia, and will be co-branded with Galardi’s Tastee Freez ice cream concept, Ted Milburn, Galardi’s director of franchise development, told C-Store Dive. Both are slated to open next summer, Milburn said.
- GoMart joins a growing number of convenience retailers adding established QSR brands to their stores to make their locations food-driven destinations.
Dive Insight:
GoMart, which operates 123 locations across West Virginia, Ohio and Virginia, already has experience bringing QSRs into its stores. Some of its locations feature brands including Little Caesars and Subway, according to its website.
That experience helped position the retailer to partner with Wienerschnitzel as the hot dog chain enters West Virginia, according to the announcement. Both restaurants will be “end-caps” attached to the existing c-stores and feature drive-thrus.
While two locations are currently in development, GoMart has identified additional opportunities to introduce Wienerschnitzel across its portfolio, including potential store conversions and new construction, over the next five years, according to the announcement.
"Wienerschnitzel/Tastee Freez brings a menu that has built a loyal following and a flexible restaurant model that can work across different types of locations, giving us an opportunity to bring something distinctive to our guests in Kanawha City, Ghent and additional communities in the future,” said Phil Shuman, president of GoMart, in the announcement.
For Galardi, the GoMart partnership offers a way to expand Wienerschnitzel into nontraditional locations, per the announcement. Beyond convenience stores, the company is looking at military, travel and other high-visibility environments that can introduce the brand to new customers.
"GoMart brings together many of the qualities we look for in a development partner, from strong operating experience and deep knowledge of its markets to an established footprint that creates opportunities for Wienerschnitzel to grow across different formats," said David Winter, chief development officer for Wienerschnitzel, in the announcement.
The trend of c-stores adding QSRs continues to gain traction across retail. Other convenience chains that have added QSR concepts in 2026 include Loop Neighborhood Market, BrakeTime Corner Market, Oxxo USA and Bolla Market.
