Wawa has promoted company veteran Bill O’Donnell to chief information technology officer, a spokesperson from the convenience retailer confirmed to C-Store Dive.
O’Donnell, who has been with Wawa for more than 25 years, now oversees the company’s technology strategy and operations, cybersecurity, digital platforms, data and analytics, according to his LinkedIn bio.
“Bill O’Donnell has more than 25 years of experience with Wawa in various roles and departments, including his newest role as Chief Information Technology Officer,” Wawa’s spokesperson said in a statement.
Technology plays a key role at Wawa’s convenience stores, particularly within its made-to-order foodservice business, which can take orders through mobile ordering and touchscreen kiosks. Last year, the retailer launched a machine-learning-based forecasting and replenishment program designed to reduce food waste.
O’Donnell earlier served as Wawa’s senior director of retail fuels and business development, according to the company’s website, and his LinkedIn bio indicates he held other roles in fuels and project management. He also serves on the board of The Wawa Foundation, a nonprofit supporting the company’s charitable initiatives.
Wawa’s spokesperson did not respond by press time to questions about O’Donnell’s responsibilities or who he is succeeding in his new position.
