Growth is the name of the game for major convenience retailers — and for many, that means expanding into new markets. Be it through M&A or new builds, several big-name companies have made their way to new states in the past half year.
Moving into fresh territory takes confidence and a keen assessment of the competition. To help readers stay on top of who’s moving where, C-Store Dive has compiled coverage over the past six months detailing openings in new states by companies like Rutter’s and Kwik Trip.
We skipped some retailers that have announced expansion plans but haven’t actually opened those stores yet. Buc-ee’s, which has plans all over the country, signed a memorandum of understanding with Springville, Utah, in September as it explored its first location in that state. Officials in Gretna, Nebraska, also announced that the city hopes to break ground on one of the beaver-themed mega-stores later this year.
Additionally, the Wills Group, owner of the Dash In c-store banner, agreed to purchase 16 properties in the Carolinas as the company moves closer to a long-awaited debut there.
Below is our coverage of seven retailers that have recently made significant moves into new territory.
