Dive Insight:
Rutter’s, which operates nearly 100 convenience stores across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, is no stranger to getting creative with its grub. Past concoctions have included burgers topped with peanut butter, onion rings and barbecue sauce; a fried sweet bologna sandwich stacked with cheese and potato chips; and an LTO lineup featuring 35 taco variations.
The new menu marks another step in Rutter’s efforts to make its foodservice program stand out from typical convenience store fare.
“Our guests have different tastes and cravings, so we wanted to create a pasta menu that truly offers something for everyone,” said Philip Santini, senior director of food and beverage for Rutter’s, in the announcement.
The pasta in each of the new dishes is imported from Italy, per the announcement. Rutter’s is also adding chicken parmesan and sides such as cannoli chips and dip cups and cheesy garlic bread.
As it expands its food menu, Rutter’s also separately announced this week that it’s signed a multiyear agreement with point-of-sale and payments vendor NCR Voyix.
Per the agreement, Rutter’s will deploy NCR’s suite of Voyix Commerce Platform applications to connect store, foodservice and forecourt workflows onto one platform. Rutter’s will also adopt NCR’s managed and field support services, allowing the retailer to accept all major commercial fleet payment methods across its footprint.
