Dive Brief:
- C-store chain Oasis Stop ‘N Go has partnered with Washie to bring the smart toilet company’s technology to 17 stores across southern Idaho, according to a Thursday press release.
- Washie’s smart toilet seats allow customers to clean the toilet seat with an alcohol solution before sitting down, as opposed to using paper covers.
- As the convenience retail industry faces shrinking foot traffic, experts have highlighted how executing on business fundamentals, like offering clean bathrooms, is more important than ever.
Dive Insight:
Oasis prioritizes having clean, welcoming facilities, which is part of what led them to install the seats, according to the announcement. The technology gives customers an easy way to control their restroom experience while cutting down on paper covers that may get left on the seat or floor and contribute to bathroom clutter.
“Restroom cleanliness is an important part of the customer experience, particularly for convenience stores serving travelers every day,” said Rob Poleki, founder and CEO of Washie, in the announcement.
RaceTrac installed Washie toilet seats at locations in seven states in 2024. A survey of more than 950 customers who used those restrooms found that many said the ability to disinfect the toilet seat improved their restroom experience, according to the announcement.
Clean bathrooms are important for c-stores because a bad experience may lead to a customer not only never returning but also warning other people, industry experts say.
